A foreigner working in Thailand is no longer seen as an anomalous case. After all, Thailand is miles away behind the Land of Milk and Honey in terms of the greenness of pasture that each country offers. But, with the advent of multinational and international companies in Thailand, the necessity for highly skilled foreign employees specializing in skills that are scarce among the local workforce has consequently opened the door to foreigners to be able to come and work in Thailand. For the Ministry of Labor, this new employment trend in the Kingdom easily translates into more comprehensive labor laws aimed at protecting the local work force by regulating the burgeoning number of foreign workers in the country. One of the Ministry’s important functions is the processing and issuance of a work permit to a foreign worker.
It is very crucial for a foreigner wishing to work and generate an income in the Kingdom of Thailand to have a valid work permit. Working with out the required visa and work permit doesn’t only jeopardize the employee’s stay and employment in Thailand but the employer’s business as well. The foreign employee could face criminal charges which could result in deportation while the Thai company or the employer could be blacklisted by the Labor Department. It’s the duty of the employing company to provide appropriate visa and work permit to its foreign employee. However, at times, the company is too busy to organize all this stuff so the employee is left on its own to figure out the process.
Apart from having a Non B visa, the foreign employee has to undergo a medical check up for certain diseases. A standard sized ID photos are also required. A corresponding government fee, the amount depends on the length of the WP being applied for, should be paid upon submission of the application.
The process of getting a work permit is quite simple as long as you are familiar with the required documents and you can communicate in Thai because more often than not the forms and required documents are all in Thai so the difficulty in doing it on your own.
